I have just made a new post in the What’s New section of the TEAL website about icebreaker activities. I love ‘Find someone who …’, as it is easily customisable and and a fun non-threatening way for students to get to know each other and for the teacher to get to know the students. It is also an easy way to quickly learn about students’ basic interpersonal communicative abilities (BICS).
What icebreaker activities do you like using at the start of term? Please let us know!

With younger students, I get them to make A3 personalized placemats. The students decorate their name and draw pictures of things that they like. The teacher can label the pictures and students can talk about what they like. Laminate the placemats and use them during eating time to keep the tables clean!
