Will the EAL continuum be updated as part of Victorian Curriculum, if not how do we assess EAL students when we use Victorian Curriculum?

Update on the new EAL Curriculum. Please feel free to pass on this information through your networks and reassure teachers that they will not be expected to make any changes to their assessment and reporting practices next year.

You may be aware that we have had the first Reference Group meeting for the new EAL Curriculum and the writers have been working on the first draft. We will be holding a series of consultation meetings in the first half of Term 4, which will give EAL teachers the opportunity to give feedback on the draft curriculum before the final version is completed. Although we plan to introduce the new EAL Curriculum in 2017, it will not be formally implemented until 2018, which will give teachers a year to familiarise themselves with it.

Please feel free to pass on the Department’s esl [at] edumail.vic.gov.au email address to teachers who may be interested in being involved in the consultation process.
