Getting students ready for an assessment
Consider the following recommendations before your students undertake the assessments:
The TEAL RVEAL assessments are designed for students in Years 3 – 10. They are not intended for use with students who are pre-literate (at the BL or CL levels of the Victorian Curriculum F-10 EAL ), on Pathway A (Foundation – Year 2) or in Years 11 and 12.
Ensure that students are ready for the assessment both in terms of their reading and vocabulary knowledge and skills, and in terms of their computer literacy.
Discuss/negotiate expectations based on the purpose of the assessment. Communicate to the student clearly what you want to know from the assessment. Explain that the assessment will help you know more about the student in terms of their reading and vocabulary skills, what he or she is doing well and areas for improvement.
